The NC Tongue Tie Center believes that good oral function is for life.
Our Mission
The mission of the NC Tongue Tie Center is to devote our expertise and efforts to improve the health and wellness of infants and children with tethered oral tissues through conservative clinical practice, education of parents and healthcare professionals, and active research to help move the body of knowledge forward.
Comprehensive Evaluation – We use data from the medical history, symptom history, and a full clinical exam to pull together a narrative for parents that tell us where we are. Only by knowing where we are, will we be able to know where we are going, and how we will get there.
Parent and child focused treatment options – We consider all treatment options based on the state of the child, and the wants and needs of the family. Unbiased data, and objective interpretation help parents to see the pros and cons of all treatment options, including postponing treatment, or no treatment. Once we know where we are going, we can map out how to get there. Everything they need, and nothing they don’t.
Integrative and interprofessional support – Talking to parents about the different support systems available before, during and after the frenectomy is important for the best outcomes. We open doors to other professionals who can help make the journey smoother for the whole family.
Our Story
The North Carolina Tongue Tie Center is the culmination of a long held vision by an interdisciplinary team. The model we use has been in development since 2014 as a vision for a way to best serve families who have children struggling due to oral restrictions -tongue and lip ties. We have witnessed how overwhelming the “tongue tie journey” is for parents, who fight for answers, services, and clarity about what their child needs. Parents who bring their children to us have frequently gotten conflicting advice and information about the right course to take. Their children have often been given superficial treatment that fails to give full resolution.
The NCTTC consists of professionals from a variety of fields who all share a common goal –Patient Centered, Evidence Based, Integrative Care. Our vision is holistic care that treats patients as whole people and considers the needs of the whole family. We value the physical and emotional needs of both parents and the small people they give us the honor of caring for. We work for care that is unbiased in every possible way so that our recommendations and treatment are centered entirely on well informed parents making evidence based decisions about what is best for their children.
