By Raymond Tseng, DDS, PhD
Hello and welcome! I’m Dr. Raymond Tseng, and I’m honored you’ve found your way to our blog at the North Carolina Tongue Tie Center. Whether you’re a new parent navigating the early days of feeding challenges, or a caregiver seeking answers about your child’s oral development, this space is for you.
Why This Blog Exists
Tongue ties (ankyloglossia) and lip ties are often misunderstood, underdiagnosed, or mischaracterized. As a pediatric dentist and researcher, I’ve spent years studying the impact of oral restrictions on infant feeding, speech development, and overall health. This blog is my way of sharing that knowledge directly with you—without jargon, without judgment, and with the compassion every parent deserves.
Here, you’ll find:
Latest research on tongue tie diagnosis and treatment
Opinion pieces to help guide your decision-making
Stories and insights from clinical practice
Resources to support your journey—from lactation to recovery
What You Can Expect
Each post will be written with the goal of empowering you. I’ll break down complex topics like:
- How tongue ties affect breastfeeding and bottle feeding
- When a frenectomy is appropriate—and when it’s not
- What to expect before, during, and after treatment
- How to advocate for your child in medical settings
I’ll also share updates from the broader medical and dental communities, including new guidelines, emerging therapies, and collaborative care models that are changing how we treat oral restrictions.
You’re Not Alone
If you’re feeling overwhelmed, confused, or even dismissed by professionals who don’t fully understand tongue ties, I want you to know: you’re not alone. Many families walk this path, and many find relief, clarity, and healing through education and proper care.
Thank you for trusting us with your child’s health. I look forward to walking this journey with you—one post at a time.
Warmly,
Dr. Raymond Tseng, DDS, PhD
